AEO / GEO for DTC — practical checklist

Answer Engine Optimization and Generative Engine Optimization checklist for Shopify DTC brands — technical, content, citations, and measurement.

Updated 2026-07-19

AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) are the work of becoming the brand AI systems name, cite, and recommend. On Shopify, that work is concrete: crawlers, schema, citable pages, citations, and a fixed measurement panel.

Definitions: What is AEO? · What is GEO?. Taxonomy vs SEO: AEO vs GEO vs SEO.

The four workstreams

  1. Access — can AI systems fetch your HTML?
  2. Understanding — is the product/brand machine-readable?
  3. Citability — can answers extract facts from your pages?
  4. Proof + measurement — do third parties corroborate you, and can you track SoV weekly?
